DRD Technology performed a Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) Zone 4 Seismic analysis on this switching equipment for a major telecommunications manufacturer. This analysis conformed to the specifications set forth by Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore) GR-63-CORE.
Most of the geometric details of the rack are included with few approximations to produce accurate values for the natural frequencies and stress distributions.
One and three shelf configurations of this rack were analyzed and modified before the rack was tested on the shaker table to be certified. The computer simulations up front allowed the rack to pass physical testing on the first attempt, thus avoiding costly delays and several physical prototypes.
Component level analysis was also performed on the back planes and cards to reduce the effect of warping. Card ejectors were also analyzed and modified to perform well under various loading conditions and cycles.
