Large Deflection and Contact Simulation of a Battery Clip Using Shell Elements

 This Motorola battery clip model resides in Pro/ENGINEER. Mid planes were extracted in Pro/ENGINEER and imported to ANSYS to create an 3D shell model. A contact plate is pushed into the clip to determine spring force. Aspects of this model include:
  • 3D shell to shell flexible-flexible contact.
  • Large deflections.
  • Adjustment of normal contact stiffness to achieve convergence.
