Bonded Always Contact Analysis of Pump Fluid End Assembly

Figure 2 - This graphic shows the finite element mesh. Note that the two tie bolts and discharge flange are meshed with bricks. The meshes of these parts do not share nodes. Part interaction is handled through ANSYS bonded always contact.

In this workshop we use ANSYS bonded always contact to hold together the parts in this pump fluid end assembly. Geometry is imported to ANSYS from SolidWorks using the Connection for Parasolid. This is a linear analysis. The ANSYS contact elements allow each part to be meshed in the most efficient manner. Each part mesh is independent of the meshes of the other parts. We apply bolt preloads using thermal loads.
